The raven boys by Maggie Stiefvater review

Hello Dreamers!

So I picked this series up at the library a few weeks ago and i just got to read the first one, The raven boys.  i didn't know what to expect because although i saw random hype for it, i didn't really pay attention. But i recognized the newest books at the library and knew it wasn't gonna last through the day at the library because new releases take months on hold for you to get your turn. So i grabbed the first book and read the blurb and decided i wanted to read it so i grabbed the whole series!

I loved this book. I gave it 5 stars, It got me interested right off the bat. I will say it slowed down for me a ton when it was Whelk's turn to have a chapter but that's because i experienced instant hate for him. I have no clue what set me off but i just instantly hated him so i hated being in his head and reading his parts. on the contrary i instantly had a odd connection with Ronan. I loved that he was so blunt and forward yet humorous. Not to mention his description was sexy. I love a buzz cut. Some might find him too damaged but i felt he was a likeable damaged. Adam on the other hand was just ehhhh, he seems a little too jealous and off for me. Gansey- well the name was a hard one for me. In my head i kept saying Gains-ley, no clue why. So it took me stopping the book to look up the meaning of his name for it to sink in for me. (it means a type of scottish shirt) I didn't fall for Gansey, he was chill but i didn't find him super lovable. I'm hoping in the next book we see more of who he really is and the deeper link to Blue and Glendower. The character's were EXCELLENTLY written. Every character being distinct and having their very own style and definite personalities. I find in some books the characters can blend into each other and not be as easy to tell the differences in personality. Maggie did a great job making every single character full and unique and i really enjoyed that. Even Blue and her family are all VERY different despite them all living together and having the same job. I enjoyed Blue and felt she was quirky and likeable. By the end of the book though i will say i'm not really liking Adam and think i'm going to hate him in the next book.

I loved the hints left in the book that foreshadowed things to come later. Like Noah not eating. I remember thinking, "wow, this noah kid isn't around as much or involved as much as the other three, what's the point of even putting him in the book?" Which now i realize why she did that! Then the psychic  readings and figuring out how they applied as well. Like Blue not putting her thumb in when she punches thing.

Not to mention the plot was always going somewhere and it kept my interest. THEN the ending! Even just the very last line of the book had me hooked to where i knew i HAD to read the next book. Which i will probably start tonight.

I will say i think the last (current) book's name i feel gives a little away. It's called raven king and i feel like that tells us they will in fact find the raven king. But hey whatever.

I really enjoyed this book and if you like young adult fantasy i recommend this book to you!

Check it out! The raven boys is an awesome book if you ask me.  Next i will be reading the Sequel The dream thieves if you want to read it with me! .
